Lesson Study


  • Classrooms are busy places

Lesson study is a powerful model of joint professional development which enables teachers to improve, innovate and develop their practice, through focus on struggling learners. It is internationally recognised as a powerful tool for improving learning and teaching, was a successful part of the 'London Challenge' and is established across Europe, East Asia and the US.

This programme will help schools:

  • gain insights into how to make lesson study a workable approach

  • reflect on how to ensure the process maintains a critical focus on children's learning, not teacher performance

  • distinguish lesson study from a simple lesson observation, to support the development of a professional culture based on trust and respect

  • plan, teach and analyse the research lesson

  • involve pupils in the process

  • pass on to others the new practice knowledge you have gained in your lesson study



1 full day and 2 half-days

It is recommended that 3 teachers from your school attend the full training plus the headteacher attends an essential 1 hour afternoon session on Day 1.  We do appreciate this may be difficult for some schools so if this is not viable you can register your interest for fewer spaces.  Please note, it is essential that the headteacher attends their session.
