Keynote speakers

Bart Shaw 

Senior Associate at LKMco (The education and youth ‘think and action-tank’)

Lead author of Joseph Rowntree Foundation SEND report exploring the links between SEND and poverty, showing poverty is both a cause and an effect of SEND and makes a series of recommendations.

Bart is a Senior Associate at LKMco and he has spent the last 8 years working in education both in the UK and overseas. He combines experience of policy making at the heart of central government with hands-on experience as a teacher and middle leader in school.  He is lead author of the recent LKMco and Joseph Rowntree Foundation report ‘Special Educational Needs and their links to poverty’, as well as the LKMco and Social Mobility Commission reports ‘Ethnicity, Gender and Social Mobility’ and “Low income pupils’ progress in secondary schools”.   Bart has worked at the Department for Education as a fast-streamer on apprenticeships and extended schools and at the Cabinet Office on Economic and Domestic Affairs. Since then he has worked as a geography teacher, data analyst and Head of Department at a large mixed comprehensive secondary school in rural Derbyshire. Bart has previously spoken at a number of events for practioners including The Telegraph Festival of Education, ResearchEd, ResearchSEND, Inside Government, and Westminster Briefing."



Dean Beadle 

‘Aspergers, education and me’
Dean will share his own experiences of life on the autism spectrum.

Dean Beadle shares his experiences of life on the autism spectrum. In recent years he has spoken in Denmark, Belgium, Guernsey and Ireland as well as undertaking four annual seminar tours of Australia and New Zealand. Through his humorous and insightful speeches Dean outlines his positive outlook on his diagnosis.  Dean has also edited the Network Autism 'Autism in Practice' newsletter which was sent to subscribers in over 90 countries. He has also written for The Guardian, London Paper and NAS Communication magazine.  An interview with Dean is featured as a key resource in the Autism Education Trust training programme which has just celebrated training 100,000 schools staff.
